Police open fire in North Point

     Police are investigating a Police open fire case in North Point last night (September 15).

     About 9.19pm yesterday, Police received a report from a woman that her husband was assaulting her and her mother-in-law in a residential unit on Kam Ping Street. Police officers sped to the scene and located the man, who was holding a chopper and a pair of scissors, along with the 41-year-old informant and her 68-year-old mother-in-law.

     Police officers attempted to persuade the man to disarm himself but he suddenly lost control of emotions and attempted to attack one of the police officers with the weapons in his hands. Facing threats to life, the male police officer gave multiple verbal warnings to the man but in vain and subsequently fired a shot at him.

     Sustaining shot wound to his chest, the 38-year-old man was sent to Ruttonjee Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 10.39pm yesterday; the informant was not injured, while her mother-in-law sustained injuries to her left hand and head. They were sent to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in conscious state.

     Investigations by the Regional Crime Unit of Hong Kong Island are under way. Anyone who has any information to offer is urged to contact the investigating officers on 9886 0043.
