Forty convictions were recorded in August 2023 for breaches of legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection Department.
Twelve of the convictions were under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, seven were under the Noise Control Ordinance, nine were under the Public Cleansing and Prevention of Nuisances Regulation, 10 were under the Waste Disposal Ordinance and two were under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance.
A company was involved in two cases of failing to take measures to control air pollutant emissions, and another company was involved in failing to comply with an air pollution abatement notice. A $30,000 fine, which was the heaviest fine in August, was imposed on the companies for each of the offences.
