The Government published a notice in the Gazette today (September 28) declaring that the operation of the 18 District Councils (DCs) will be suspended from October 17, 2023, to facilitate the holding of the seventh ordinary election of the DCs.
A Home Affairs Department spokesman said the decision was made in accordance with section 28 of the District Councils Ordinance (Cap. 547). The DC Secretariat of each district will send letters to inform the incumbent DC members of the relevant arrangements during the suspension of DC operation.
