The Sustainable Lantau Office (SLO) under the Civil Engineering and Development Department and the Islands District Office will organise the Happy Moon Lantern Festival at Tung Chung East Promenade from tomorrow (September 23) to October 8 to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with the public.
The layout of the Lantern Festival is designed by veteran film director and contemporary artist, William Kan. Nearly 3 000 lanterns will hang along the promenade while lantern decorations including a giant "happy moon" and "twin rabbits" will be on display. The lighting ceremony of the Lantern Festival will be held at 7pm on September 23. Thereafter, the lighting hours are 6.30pm to 10pm daily, extended to 11pm on the Mid-Autumn Festival Day and the following day (September 29 and 30 respectively).
The Islands District Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival cum Celebration of the National Day will also be held at Tung Chung East Promenade on the Mid-Autumn Festival Day and the following day. Activities will include a hanfu experience, cultural performances, art workshops, lantern riddles and booth games.
The opening hours of the Tung Chung Community Liaison Centre at the promenade will also be extended during the Lantern Festival. Members of the public are welcome to visit.
