The Department of Health (DH) today (August 8) alerted members of the public to a suspected fake Facebook page named "器官贈在香港 Organ Donation at-HK", which is also suspected of fraudulently using the DH's butterfly logo symbolising organ donation in the page's profile picture.
A spokesman for the DH reminded that the link to its Facebook page "器官贈在香港 Organ Donation at HK" is www.facebook.com/organdonationhk. The DH discovered that the "器官贈在香港 Organ Donation at HK" Facebook page was counterfeited recently. That suspected fake social media page (link: www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100095337877064) has not been launched, nor is it maintained, by the DH.
The spokesman stressed that the DH's social media page will not leave comments on its posts requesting event participants to click on any external links, nor request participants in any form to provide their bank or credit card information. Members of the public are urged to be discerning in distinguishing the authenticity of online information. They should not click on any hyperlinks from unknown sources with a view to forestalling losses.
The DH has reported the case to the Police for investigation. Those who have provided his/her personal information to the suspected fake page or through relevant hyperlinks are advised to consider reporting the matter to the Police. For enquiries or to confirm the authenticity of the page, please call the Health Promotion Branch of the DH at 2572 1476 or email to organdonation@dh.gov.hk.
