Officers of the Immigration Department (ImmD) found a person under detention at the Castle Peak Bay Immigration Centre in the act of committing suicide by hanging herself yesterday (February 23) evening while inspecting the detention cells. ImmD officers immediately called for an ambulance to send the person to hospital for rescue, but the person was certified dead later.
The deceased was a 36-year-old female Mainland illegal immigrant who was detained pending repatriation to the Mainland. At around 7.25pm, while an officer of the ImmD was inspecting the cells, she was found hanging in her cell by her clothing. ImmD officers and a duty registered nurse immediately rescued her, provided first aid treatment and called for an ambulance. The person was then sent to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment. She was certified dead at 9.12pm.
The ImmD has reported the case to the Police and will fully co-operate with the Police in the investigation.
