The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Caspar Tsui, today (December 20) congratulated Hong Kong swimming athletes on their remarkable performances in the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m). They broke several Hong Kong records in various events. In particular, Siobhan Bernadette Haughey set a new world record and a championships record in the Women's 200m and 100m Freestyle Swimming events respectively.
Haughey also won two gold medals in the Women's 100m and 200m Freestyle Swimming events and a bronze medal in the Women's 400m Freestyle Swimming event.
"Hong Kong swimming athletes never stop making breakthroughs. They have made unprecedented achievements in top-tier events, showing the efforts of our athletes to the world. The success comes from the commitment of the coaching team and athletes over years. I hope that Hong Kong athletes will reach new heights in their sports," Mr Tsui said.
