The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority:
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) received enquiries from the members of the public about fraudsters posing as HKMA staff over the telephone regarding unauthorised credit card transactions and asking for personal information. We would like to remind the public that the HKMA staff will not contact the public with regard to personal financial matters. The public is also reminded not to give their personal information before verifying the caller's identity. The HKMA has referred the case to the Hong Kong Police Force for further investigation.
Members of the public who suspect that they have become victims of any fraudulent acts should contact the Police or the Commercial Crime Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force at 2860 5012 for follow-up actions and investigation by the Police.
