Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, at a media session after attending a radio programme this morning (October 30):
Reporter: How likely people will get a cheaper electricity bill this year?
Secretary for the Environment: In fact, we have the Electricity Charges Subsidy Scheme by the Financial Secretary. Also, we have been implementing the Electricity Charges Relief Scheme since 2019. The latter one involves providing on average $50 to each household every month. Up to now, one-seventh of Hong Kong's overall households remain not paying any electricity tariffs on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. The Electricity Charges Relief Scheme still has its effect to help many households go through this transition stage. While you asked about this year's tariff review, we will take a very prudent manner to balance the environmental performance and the affordability of households. Thank you.
