The following is issued on behalf of the Transport Advisory Committee:

The Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) was briefed today (October 26) on the framework of the Traffic and Transport Strategy Study (TTSS).

The purpose of the TTSS is to draw up a forward-looking Transport Strategy Blueprint which lays down the visions, strategies, initiatives and action plans for Hong Kong's future traffic and transport policies, so as to ensure that Hong Kong can maintain a safe, reliable, environmentally friendly and efficient traffic and transport system. Not only can such a system meet the travel needs of the community, it will also support the sustainable development of Hong Kong and facilitate the seamless transport links with the rest of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

The TAC Chairman, Professor Stephen Cheung, said, "Members welcome the Government's taking forward of the TTSS. We believe that it will enhance Hong Kong's transport policy to meet new transport developments and demands, and to strengthen our competitiveness for future development. Members also expressed views on the four key directions under the scope of the TTSS, namely to optimise the use of limited road space, to provide people-centric and efficient public transport services, to advocate green and active transport and to enhance transport connectivity with other cities in the GBA."
