169 Hong Kong athletes to compete in 14th National Games finals

     The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) will send a delegation, comprising 169 athletes and 66 officials and medical practitioners, to take part in the finals of the 14th National Games of the People's Republic of China, which will be held in Shaanxi Province between September 15 and 27.

     The National Games is the highest-level sport event held every four years in the Mainland. Elite athletes from different provinces, cities, autonomous regions and the Special Administrative Regions will gather and compete in the Games. This year Hong Kong athletes will compete in 18 final competitions, namely archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, canoeing (sprint), cycling (road race, track and mountain bike), equestrian (jumping), fencing, golf, gymnastics (rhythmic gymnastics), table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball (beach volleyball), baseball/softball (baseball), karatedo, sport climbing and wushu (taolu and sanda).

     The HKSAR has participated in the National Games seven times since returning to the motherland in 1997. In the last National Games, Hong Kong athletes were awarded a total of 16 medals (two gold, seven silver and seven bronze). Sport climbing athlete Au Chi-fung will be the flag bearer of the Hong Kong delegation in the upcoming opening ceremony of the 14th National Games.
