The Merchant Shipping (Local Vessels) (General) (Amendment) Regulation 2020 (Commencement) Notice and the Merchant Shipping (Local Vessels) (Safety and Survey) (Amendment) Regulation 2020 (Commencement) Notice were gazetted today (August 27).
The Secretary for Transport and Housing has appointed January 1, 2022, as the day on which the Merchant Shipping (Local Vessels) (General) (Amendment) Regulation 2020 and the Merchant Shipping (Local Vessels) (Safety and Survey) (Amendment) Regulation 2020 come into operation to implement the requirements on installation and operation of the Very High Frequency radiotelephone on certain Class IV vessels (i.e. local pleasure vessels). The regulations were enacted by the Legislative Council earlier on.
The commencement notices will be tabled to the Legislative Council on September 1 for negative vetting.
