Natural England board member receives Queen’s Birthday Honours

Natural England Board Member Dr Andy Clements has paid tribute to the dedication of all those working in conservation as he is awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Dr Clements, a career conservationist, has been on the Board at Natural England since 2014, making him one of the longest-serving Board Members. Until his recent retirement in December 2020, he had also led the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) for 13 years. During this time he led the organisation through a global recession, a pandemic and ensured resilience for the Trust into the future.

Other career and conservation highlights include:

• Serving the Statutory Nature Conservation Bodies, the Nature Conservancy Council and English Nature.
• Leading the successful defence of Dibden Bay Protected Area in 2000
• As a Director at English Nature, leading the Sites of Special Scientific Interest condition assessment which led to widespread improvements in important wildlife habitats
• Leading Natural England’s Science Advisory Council and chairing the National Nature Reserve Partnership

Beyond this, Dr Clements is a lifelong birder and is passionate about the use of evidence to help solve the twin crises of biodiversity loss and climate change.
