The Department of Health (DH) today (May 8) laid holding charges against a 29-year-old man with one count of giving false or misleading information, and a 31-year-old woman with one count of failing to comply the requirement to give information, contrary to section 3(4) and section 3(2) of the Prevention and Control of Disease (Disclosure of Information) Regulation (Cap. 599D) respectively.

The two persons are patients of cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) confirmed earlier by the CHP of the DH. During the CHP’s epidemiological investigation of the confirmed cases, the man was suspected giving false or misleading information to an authorised officer on April 16, 2021, while the woman was suspected failing to comply the requirement to give information to an authorised officer on April 17, 2021. The man and the woman were arrested today and the case will be mentioned at Kowloon City Magistracy on May 10, 2021.

A spokesman for the DH said that it is a grossly irresponsible act in concealing or providing false or misleading information to an authorised officer as this may hinder contact tracing process and pose serious threat to public health. The spokesman reiterated that resolute actions will be taken against anyone who has breached the relevant regulations.
