The Transport Department (TD) said today (January 22) that coverage of the Parking Certificate for Drivers Who Carry People with Mobility Disabilities (Parking Certificate) will be extended to on-street parking spaces designated for the disabled with effect from January 29.

Currently, a holder of the Parking Certificate may park his/her vehicle at designated parking spaces inside government multi-storey car parks managed by the TD when carrying people with mobility disabilities. To further facilitate access for people with mobility disabilities, the holder can use the on-street parking spaces designated for the disabled.

To tie in with the new arrangement, the TD is replacing the traffic signs concerned (see Annex) at on-street parking spaces designated for the disabled by phases. It is anticipated that the replacement works will be completed within six months.

All eligible applicants will be issued with a new Parking Certificate from today. The maximum validity period of the Parking Certificate is three years. The application form (www.td.gov.hk/filemanager/common/tdforms/td544.pdf) and the "Notes to Help You" document (www.td.gov.hk/filemanager/common/tdforms/td545.pdf) are available at the TD's website.

The TD will also send a letter with a new Parking Certificate by post today to existing holders to introduce the details of the arrangement.

The TD reminded holders to pay attention whether the traffic signs concerned have been modified before parking. They may visit the TD's website (www.td.gov.hk/filemanager/en/content_4963/disable_parking_space_replacement.pdf) for the locations of on-street parking spaces designated for the disabled with modified signs.
