Wui Tung Metal Hardware Company Limited was fined $50,000 at Fanling Magistrates' Courts today (November 24) for violation of the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on April 27 at a storage yard in Yuen Long. While a worker was standing on the tail lift of a truck to move out a bundle of vertically placed metallic road signs from the truck compartment, some road signs suddenly toppled. The worker was struck by the toppled road signs and fell from the tail lift onto the ground. He sustained a head injury and passed away nine days later.
