The Department of Health (DH) has recently received public enquiries about suspicious phone calls purporting to be made by the DH with the caller claiming to be a DH staff member who was conducting a population health survey and asked the called party for personal information.
A spokesman for the DH today (November 13) said, "We have not made the calls in question. The DH commenced the territory-wide Population Health Survey (PHS) 2020 early this month, during which the DH will send a letter to notify the selected households in advance, and interviewers will visit the selected households in person to conduct the survey. The interviewers will present their Interviewer Identity Card issued by the DH for the purpose of identification.
"The interviewers arranged by the DH will not call the members of selected households for personal information via telephone. Members of the public should not disclose personal information over the telephone. For those who have enquiries on the PHS 2020, they can call our hotline (2426 5208) during office hours.
"We would like to remind members of the public to stay alert. They should not follow the caller's instructions if they receive suspected fraudulent calls. If they have any doubts, they should report the matter to the Police."
