Hong Kong Customs yesterday (October 29) and today (October 30) seized about 5.6 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine with an estimated market value of about $3.4 million in Tsing Yi.

Customs officers yesterday and today selected five air transshipment parcels being sent from Malaysia to Australia via Hong Kong for inspection at a logistics company in Tsing Yi. The contents were declared as "advertising disc" and "recreational machines".

Upon inspection, Customs officers found the batch of suspected methamphetamine, packed in eight packets with thick metallic paper, inside three light boxes and two game consoles in the parcels.

     Investigation is ongoing.

Customs will continue to maintain close contact with Hongkong Post and the logistics industries to step up action against drug trafficking activities through postal parcels and express courier channels.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.

Members of the public may report any suspected drug trafficking activities to Customs' 24-hour hotline 2545 6182 or its dedicated crime-reporting email account (crimereport@customs.gov.hk).
