HKSAR Government commences amendment to the National Flag and National Emblem Ordinance

     The 22nd session of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) today (October 17) endorsed the amendments to the Law of the People's Republic of China on the National Flag (National Flag Law) and the Law of the People's Republic of China on the National Emblem (National Emblem Law). 

     The National Flag Law and the National Emblem Law were listed in Annex III to the Basic Law on July 1, 1997, and were applied locally in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) by way of legislation through the enactment of the National Flag and National Emblem Ordinance. The HKSAR Government will suitably introduce amendments to the National Flag and National Emblem Ordinance, with a view to implementing provisions that are applicable to the HKSAR and fulfilling the constitutional responsibility of the HKSAR Government.
