The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
The spokespersons for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) and Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) announced today (August 1) that two patients confirmed with COVID-19 passed away.
The 79-year-old male patient (case no: 2896) in QEH with chronic disease was admitted on July 27 due to cough.
Another 89-year-old female patient (case no: 2705) in TMH with chronic disease was admitted on July 26 due to fever.
Both patients' condition continued to deteriorate and the hospitals communicated with the families about their conditions. The families agreed to have Do-Not-Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation if the patients' condition further deteriorated. The QEH patient eventually succumbed at 11.44pm last night (July 31) and the TMH patient succumbed at 12.20am this morning.
The Hospitals were saddened about the passing away of the patients and would offer necessary assistance to the families.
Including the above cases, 29 COVID-19 confirmed patients have passed away in public hospitals so far.
