Police today (December 30) reclassified a theft and wounding case in Yuen Long on December 28 as theft and murder.
At about 9.50pm on December 28, Police received a report from a passerby that a man was found injured and collapsed at the junction of Yuen Long On Ning Road and Hi Lee Path.
Police officers sped to the scene and found the 61-year-old man sustaining head injuries. He was rushed to Tuen Mun Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 3.31pm today.
Initial investigations revealed that the 61-year-old man found a non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) man stealing two cans of beer inside a shop on Yuen Long Kik Yeung Road. The man tried to stop him, but was later attacked by the NEC man with feet at the junction of Yuen Long On Ning Road and Hi Lee Path. The NEC man fled away afterwards.
The 27-year-old NEC man was arrested on Yuen Long On Ning Road for theft and wounding yesterday afternoon (December 29). Upon investigation, the NEC man was found in suspected connection with the death of the 61-year-old man. He is being detained for further enquiries.
Post-mortem examinations will be conducted on the deceased to ascertain the cause of death.
Investigation by the District Crime Squad of Yuen Long District is underway.
