Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Sheung Shui yesterday afternoon (December 18) in which three men and three women died, while 22 men and 17 women were injured.
At about 4.20pm, a bus driven by a 56-year-old man was travelling along Fanling Highway towards Sheung Shui. When approaching Tsung Pak Long, the bus reportedly lost control and rammed into barriers and trees.
In the accident, three male passengers and two female passengers, aged between 31 and 55 were certified dead at scene. Sustaining serious injuries, a 59-year-old female passenger was rushed to North District Hospital in unconscious state and was later certified dead at 5.22pm. In addition, the 56-year-old male bus driver, 21 male passengers and 17 female passengers, aged between 3 to 74, were also injured in the accident. They were sent to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital Hospital, North District Hospital, Pok Oi Hospital and Tuen Mun Hospital respectively for medical treatment.
The 56-year-old male bus driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death. He is still being detained for further enquiries.
Investigation by the Regional Crime Unit, New Territories North is underway.
