The Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan, will depart for Santiago, Chile, in the evening on October 12 to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Finance Ministers' Meeting (FMM) and head to the US in the evening on October 15 (Santiago time) for the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG). Mr Chan will attend the Annual Meetings in the US as a member of the Chinese delegation.
While in Chile, Mr Chan will take part in discussion at various sessions of the FMM and attend the APEC Finance Ministers' Retreat on October 14 (Santiago time). He will also take the opportunity to hold bilateral meetings with other officials attending the FMM.
After arriving in the US on October 16 (Eastern Standard Time), he will first meet with US banking industry representatives in New York and then depart for Washington, DC, the next day to attend the IMF and WBG Annual Meetings on October 18. During his stay, he will call on the senior management of the IMF and the WBG as well as key players in the finance industry.
Mr Chan will return to Hong Kong in the morning on October 21. During his absence, the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr James Lau, will act as the Financial Secretary.
