The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) today (October 1) participated in the National Day Parade in Beijing to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Themed "Hong Kong In", the HKSAR float is designed to look like a moving ship, symbolising how Hong Kong constantly moves forward in the pursuit of development and progress.
The hull and eight sails of the float's design display Brand Hong Kong's "flying dragon" logo together with colourful flowing ribbons that echo the city's dynamism and connectivity as a world-class gateway linking the country with the rest of the world.
The hull's three-tier progressive colour gradient signifies the intertwined layers of Hong Kong's vibrant and diverse culture, while the overall festive and eye-catching decor captures the joyful celebratory ambience of the 70th Anniversary.
The float showcases five models of present and future iconic structures in Hong Kong to highlight the city's development in arts and culture, innovation and technology as well as infrastructure. They are:
- Hong Kong Palace Museum, indicating the promotion of Chinese culture and reinforcement of Hong Kong's position as an international cultural hub.
- M+ Museum, depicting the vibrant arts and cultural development in Hong Kong.
- Xiqu Centre, representing Hong Kong as an international metropolis where Chinese traditional cultures converge.
- Hong Kong Science Park, underscoring Hong Kong's commitment to developing innovation and technology industries to complement the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
- West Kowloon Station, demonstrating how Hong Kong's infrastructural development is strengthening connections with the country and promoting links with cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Capital Economic Circle and Yangtze River Delta Region, to create immense development opportunities.
Two giant video walls on the models of the Hong Kong Palace Museum and M+ Museum show a two-minute video highlighting various aspects of Hong Kong including culture, sports, economic development, infrastructure, innovation and technology, conservation and cultural heritage.
Complementing the colourful visuals and videos, a performance on the float by the City Contemporary Dance Company reflected Hong Kong's energy and cosmopolitan characteristics as Asia's World City.
The float will be on display at the Beijing Olympic Park from October 2 afternoon to 7.
