The Permanent Secretary for Security, Mrs Marion Lai, today (May 10) officiated at the passing-out parade of the Correctional Services Department (CSD) at the Staff Training Institute in Stanley, in which 24 Officers and 110 Assistant Officers II graduated.
At the parade, the correctional officers marched past the reviewing officer with a collective spirit of high morale, demonstrating self-confidence, team spirit and enthusiasm as correctional officers.
The newly recruited Officers and Assistant Officers II have undergone 26 and 23 weeks' training respectively. One Officer was awarded the Principal's Shield while four Assistant Officers II were awarded the Golden Whistle for outstanding performance.
Two graduates spoke to the media after the parade. Among them was Officer Mr Nestor Wong, who is the Hong Kong junior record holder for the half marathon. He said he will use his persevering spirit as an athlete to motivate persons in custody not to give up and turn over a new leaf with courage.
Assistant Officer II Mr Nabeel Mohammad, who is of Pakistani descent and was born in Hong Kong, hopes to become a bridge for communication with South Asian persons in custody so as to reduce misunderstanding from cultural differences and help them adapt to institutional life as soon as possible.
