Outreach Music Interest Courses open for applications with new course on digital music performance with tablets

     The Outreach Music Interest Courses organised by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) are now open for applications. Over 100 courses, ranging from Chinese and Western musical instrument classes to music workshops, and the newly added course on digital music performance with tablets, will be held from March to July next year. Members of the public are welcome to apply.
 
     A new course, "Let's e-Orch!", will introduce techniques of performing and creating music with tablets. Participants will perform a diverse repertoire including the Japanese folk song "Moon over the Ruined Castle", the Disney song "It's a Small World" and Brahms' "Hungarian Dance No.5". Participants can learn basic music concepts and composition techniques through improvisation, music games and activities. Adults are welcome to join the course for a fee of $930.
 
     The Music Office will continue to offer courses on ocarina, keyboard, ukulele, classical guitar and classical vocal singing; Western music theory (Grades 1 and 2); aural training; instrumental enrichment courses of pipa, dizi and saxophone; ensemble training of Chinese traditional music, flute, Western strings and Western chamber music; and the parent and child workshop "Let's Brass!". The course fees range from $310 to $970.
 
     The Outreach Music Interest Courses also provide basic training on the xiao, liuyeqin, zhong-ruan, pipa, yangqin, zheng, dizi, erhu, clarinet, saxophone, flute, trumpet, percussion (glockenspiel and practice pad), violin, viola and cello. The course fee is $1,030.
 
      All courses are conducted in small groups in Cantonese and will be held at different venues throughout Hong Kong, namely the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Sha Tin Town Hall, Tsuen Wan Town Hall, Tuen Mun Town Hall, Sheung Wan Civic Centre, Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre, Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre, Tai Po Civic Centre, Kwai Tsing Theatre, Yuen Long Theatre, Ko Shan Theatre, Hong Kong Central Library and the Music Office's music centres in Wan Chai, Mong Kok, Kwun Tong, Sha Tin and Tsuen Wan.
 
     Online applications are now available at the Music Office website www.lcsd.gov.hk/musicoffice. Course prospectuses and application forms are also available at various performance venues of the LCSD and music centres of the Music Office. The deadline for applications is January 15. Oversubscribed courses will be processed by ballot. For courses not fully taken up after the first round of application, places will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis from February 20.
