Appointment of Chairman of Council of Hong Kong Baptist University

     The Government today (December 14) announced that the Chief Executive had appointed Dr Clement Chen Cheng-jen as Chairman of the Council of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) for a term of three years with effect from January 1, 2019.

     The Acting Secretary for Education, Dr Choi Yuk-lin, welcomed Dr Chen's appointment as HKBU Council Chairman.

     Dr Chen is committed to public service and community service, particularly in the field of education and human resources. He has previously been Chairman of the Vocational Training Council, Chairman of the Youth Education, Employment and Training Task Force, an ex-officio member of the Education Commission, as well as a member of the Council of the Open University of Hong Kong. With his ample experience in public services and thorough knowledge in the post-secondary education sector in Hong Kong, I am confident that Dr Chen will be able to lead HKBU to scale new heights in the years to come," Dr Choi said.

     Dr Choi also paid tribute to Mr Cheng Yan-kee, the outgoing HKBU Council Chairman, for his contribution to the development of HKBU. She said, "Mr Cheng has served HKBU for 20 years. During his tenure as Council Chairman, HKBU successfully carried out a number of important tasks, including the implementation of the new academic structure and several large-scale campus development projects. Mr Cheng's selfless contribution earned him respect from people within and outside the university community."
