Deputy Secretary of State John J. Sullivan met today with Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly. During the meeting, the Deputy Secretary and the Foreign Minister discussed a range of regional and bilateral topics, including ways to promote regional ties, security, and stability. Deputy Secretary Sullivan and Foreign Minister Al Thani agreed on the importance of urgently assisting the thousands of Iraqis affected by the water crisis in Basrah. The Deputy Secretary thanked the Foreign Minister for Qatar’s strategic partnership and friendship with the United States.
