29th EASO Management Board discusses governance and elects new Deputy Chair.

On 25-26 September 2018, EASO is holding its 29th Management Board meeting at its headquarters in Malta. During the first day of the meeting, the Management Board re-elected Mr. David Costello, the member from Ireland, as its Deputy Chair and discussed the governance framework of the agency, including the measures undertaken by the recently appointed interim Executive Director of EASO, Mr. Jamil Addou and his plans for the agency for the coming months.  

In this regard, the Chair of the Management Board, Mag. Wolfgang Taucher, highlighted the need to be best prepared for the upcoming tasks, to further strengthen the governance and develop good structures for the new EUAA Regulation

Other points on the agenda of the first day included an exchange of views on the situation of asylum in the EU+ and an update on the EASO support to Italy, Greece, Bulgaria and Cyprus. 

The agenda for the second day of the meeting included the adoption of the EASO Guidance on reception conditions for unaccompanied children,  a discussion on the EASO external dimension activities and an update on audits and the EASO internal control framework.  
 

Background: 

The Management Board is EASO’s planning and monitoring authority. It is composed of representatives of the EU Member States, the European Commission and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The Executive Director a.i, Mr Jamil Addou, has been appointed by the Management Board, and is in charge of the day-to-day management of the agency.
