Cluster of Rhinovirus cases in Cheshire Home, Chung Hom Kok

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of the Cheshire Home, Chung Hom Kok made the following announcement today (August 4):

     Five patients (Three male and two female, aged 55 to 64) and four staff members of a long stay male ward and a long stay female ward had presented with upper respiratory tract infection symptoms since July 21. Appropriate viral tests have been arranged for the patients and three of the test results were positive to Rhinovirus. The concerned patients are being treated under isolation with stable condition. Three staff members have recovered and are back to work and one is still on sick leave.

     Admission to the concerned wards has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the concerned wards are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
